- Supporting the Faculty of Public Health by providing appropriate training to specialist public health trainees in the region as well as contributing to meetings and conferences.
- Managing the process for advising, training and supporting applicants to the Voluntary Registrar for Public Health Specialists.
- Managing and contributing towards networks including the West Midlands multi-disciplinary public health forum.
- Maintaining strategic oversight of public health leadership programmes run through the West Midlands Public Health Observatory.
- Organising, teaching and assessing modules on the Birmingham Masters in Public Health (MPH) module and contribute on to other Post Graduate Training programmes for example Warwick University MPH.
- Representing West Midlands wide public health interests in relation to the provision of dental educational facilities in the region.
- Speaking at regional and national events to explain DH policy.

Good Corporate Citizenship (GCC)
Good Corporate Citizenship is the name for Sustainable Development in the NHS. It is about how the NHS contributes to strong local economies, social cohesion and a healthy environment, taking into account the health sector use of buildings, procurement, employment, facilities management, transport etc.
The Department of Health (West Midlands) set up a GCC network for NHS Trusts in the region which met for the first time in July 2006. The network aims to encourage and promote the use of the Sustainable Development Commission Good Corporate Citizen Self-Assessment model, share good practice, knowledge and expertise and signpost assistance and resources in areas that Trusts want to develop further. The network is an active and practical forum for good corporate citizenship and aims to run workshops themed around the six key areas of the model, as well as providing a central point for information and assistance. The first workshop was held in October 2006 and themed around waste and several subsequent workshops have been themed around energy, transport, forthcoming legislation and procurement.
We have permanent members from each of the Trusts represented on the network, each of whom directly report to the Trust board. We also have members from the Ambulance Trust and NHS West Midlands and some PCT members. As the GCC agenda is very diverse, other members of the trusts are invited to attend the different workshops we run depending on their theme.

Media Training
The Department of Health (West Midlands) provides ongoing public health media support to public health practitioners and other colleagues in related professions through a number of mechanisms including the provision of free media training days and specific issue based media advocacy days (on request).
