Regional Planning

Government Offices work with regional partners to develop, implement and monitor ‘Regional Spatial Strategies,’ which set out the Government’s planning and transport policy for each region for a 15-20 year period. Regional planning addresses the link between economic, social and environmental issues and provides the frameworks for determining planning applications, as well as for preparing both Local Development Documents and Local Transport Plans.

WMRSS

The WMRSS was first issued as Regional Planning Guidance (RPG11) in June 2004.  There are 4 key strands to the RSS:

  •     Urban Renaissance;
  •      Rural Renaissance;
  •     Diversifying and modernising the Region’s economy; and
  •     Modernising the transport infrastructure of the West Midlands -supporting the sustainable development of the Region.

At the time the RSS was published a number of issues were identified for further work. These issues were divided into three phases, with each one forming a partial revision to the RSS.  For more information follow the links:
