GOWM works closely with Advantage West Midlands (AWM) and other partners to
champion the creation of an enterprise friendly environment which will
assist businesses in the region to compete in international markets.
We work to ensure that that work to support the economy by Advantage West
Midlands, Local Authorities and other partners is co-ordinated and in line
with national objectives. Alongside this we work to ensure that
government activity in the region contributes to sustainable economic
growth.
As part of this work stream we:
• Hold regular meetings with major business representative
organisations to explain government policy and hear their views on the
state of the economy and policy priorities to inform thinking in
Whitehall;
• Support the Regional Minister on all matters relating to
business and the wider economy;
• Support Ministers in respect of Regional Select and Grand
Committees.
• Organise regional meetings between Ministers from the
Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) and businesses and
business organisations;
• Provide Ministers with regional intelligence and
analysis;
• Work with AWM to co-ordinate an effective regional approach for
building for recovery, aligning activity across the public sector.
• Negotiate and monitor the delivery of economic targets in the
Local Area Agreements (LAAs) agreed between councils and local partners and
central government;
• Work with AWM, Local Authorities and other partners to deliver
improved business support through the introduction of products from the
Solutions for Business (SfB) portfolio; and
• Work with regional partners to take forward the recommendations
of the Review of Sub-National Economic Development (SNR) including helping
to develop arrangements for the introduction of a single integrated
regional strategy to deliver sustainable economic growth in the region.
