It also works with the creative industries, which are those industries with their origin in individual creativity, skill and talent and which have a potential for wealth and job creation through the generation and exploitation of intellectual property.

DCMS aims to maximise the contribution of the arts sector and improve the quality of life of all through the arts. DCMS works to:
- Broaden access for all to a rich and varied artistic and cultural life
- Ensure that the artistic activity it funds aspires to be world class in terms of standards and innovation
- Ensure that everyone has the opportunity to develop artistic talent and to achieve excellence in the arts
- Develop the educational potential of all the nations artistic and cultural resources
- Raise the standards of artistic and cultural education and training
- Ensure an adequate skills supply for the arts and cultural sectors
- Reduce the number of those that feel excluded from society by using the arts
Creative Industries
DCMS assists the creative industries by raising their profile and helping them achieve their full economic potential. It defines the creative industries as those industries which have their origin in individual creativity, skill and talent and which have a potential for wealth and job creation through the generation and exploitation of intellectual property.
Key Organisations
Arts Council England is the national development agency for the arts in England. It is responsible for distributing public money from the Government and the National Lottery to artists and arts organisations. It also provides advice and information, commissions research and forges partnerships that benefit the arts sector. It has a national office and nine regional offices.
Screen West Midlands is the regional agency for all screen media in the West Midlands. It aims to support, promote and develop the screen media industry in the region through six operational areas: production, education, exhibition, training, archive and locations.
