Millennium Volunteers

Millennium Volunteers

Millennium Volunteers are young people who give up their free time to help their local communities. You may find them coaching a school football team, working at a community radio station or helping create a garden for local residents. Millennium Volunteers allow young people to build on their interests, develop themselves and make a difference to their community. Through their voluntary work, volunteers gain valuable skills and experience they can use in the workplace, such as team working.

Responsibility for the Management of Millennium Volunteers passed from the Government Office to V (a charity promoting all youth volunteering) from 1st April 2007. More information on the national picture

After 100 hours of volunteering, MVs will be presented with an Award signed by the Minister for Skills and Vocational Education. However the ultimate aim is to reach the 200 hours target, when MVs will receive an Award of Excellence signed by the Secretary of State. Over 40,000 MVs have received an Award of Excellence so far.

Having MV on your CV is something that really makes employers and Universities sit up and take notice!

From April 2004 Government Office for the West Midlands has managed the 14 MV contracts in the Region. Our projects are based in local volunteering centres, universities and colleges and they offer a full range of opportunities. We work closely with local Connexions Partnerships and our role includes co-ordinating regional network activity, marketing and publicity arrangements.

So if you are aged 16 – 24, Millennium Volunteers could be for you. If you would like more information on the 14 projects operating in the West Midlands please contact the Millennium Volunteers Team or click on one of the links at the bottom of this page.
