Chris joined the United Kingdom Civil Service in 1973, and, after 10 years in the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), where he worked in a number of policy divisions in London, he moved on promotion to the DTI ’s West Midlands Office in 1984.
Chris has been responsible for DTI’s activities in the West Midlands region for much of the intervening period, and in 1998, on promotion to the Senior Civil Service, he became the Director responsible for all the region’s European Structural Funds programmes, worth around £1 billion in the current round. More recently, since the beginning of September 2005, Chris has added the Corporate Strategy brief to his portfolio of responsibilities.
On a personal level Chris lives in the small South Shropshire town of Cleobury Mortimer, and is married to Pat. They have three grown-up children.
