The organisation is made up of five Directorates and the Public Health Group. Each Deputy Regional Director and Assistant Director also has a geographical responsibility.
The Directorates are as follows:
- Sustainable Futures Directorate is responsible for housing, planning, transport, regional policy, culture, media and sport, sustainable development and rural policy. The Deputy Regional Director is Steve Kennett.
- Economic and Organisational Development Directorate is responsible for European programmes, trade and industry policy and corporate services. The Deputy Regional Director is Chris Marsh.
- Children and Learners Directorate is responsible for policies on early years, childhood, young people and skills and higher education. The Deputy Regional Director is Clive Wilkinson.
- Places Directorate is responsible for focus on place, local government improvement, Local Area Agreements, neighbourhood renewal, social inclusion and cohesion delivery and crime and drugs delivery. The Deputy Regional Director is Philippa Holland.
- Dr Rashmi Shukla is Director for Public Health at GOWM. More information on the work of this division can be found under the Public Health section of this site.
- Community Safety Directorate is responsible for crime and drugs policy, social inclusion and cohesion policy, resilience and audit. The Deputy Regional Director is John Curtis.
