For local authorities to deliver effective services to the public it is important that they are well run and can react to changing demands.

The first set of new CAA reports were published on 9 December 2009. CAA is the new approach to assessing the performance of local public services. Combining the perspectives of partner inspectorates, CAA provides a joint assessment of outcomes for people in an area and a forward look at prospects for sustainable improvement.

Together with partner inspectorates the Audit Commission are delivering Comprehensive Area Assessments.
